Our Story
Bywaqa takes its name from Waqa - the sky god of Ethiopian Oromo legend, where coffee was first cultivated. It's a nod to coffee's birthplace, and to the people who have grown it for centuries.
We started Bywaqa because functional coffee, as a category, had quietly given up on coffee. The premise was sound: a daily cup that delivers more than caffeine. The execution was broken. Pre-ground beans mixed with powdered mushrooms produced a drink that tasted nothing like coffee. Muted, earthy, flat.
So we built it differently. Whole-bean single-origin Arabica in one part of the bag. Functional ingredients pressed into a small tablet in the other. The two come together only when you grind them. Fresh, every morning. The beans keep their aroma. The functional ingredients keep their potency. No compromises.
Our coffee is roasted in partnership with Agro Cafe, who help family-run farms across Colombia, Ethiopia, and beyond, grow specialty-grade coffee in a changing climate. Fair trade and sustainable agriculture aren't a marketing line - they're how every Bywaqa bean is grown.
Real coffee. Actual benefits. No compromises.
That's why we built it.
